Deep tissue massage techniques focus on the deeper layers of muscle in the body. Specific forms of direct pressure are used to help break up trigger points and adhesions within muscles and reduce chronic pain.
Sports massage is geared towards athletes who put repetitive stress on certain muscles and joints. It is most effective prior to competition to warm up the muscles and increase flexibility and circulation, or as a recovery following training or competition. Sports massage utilizes a variety of stretching, rocking, and compression techniques.
